Before the migration to AMOS-17, SKY AFRIQUE SA’s SATCOM network was reliant on a standard geostationary satellite using a C-band wide beam. This setup provided only 2G service and faced several challenges:

In November 2020, SKY AFRIQUE SA transitioned its network to Spacecom’s AMOS-17 High-Throughput Satellite (HTS) C-band beam over SA, leveraging its unique C-band spot beams architecture and digital payload technology. The results were immediate and impactful:
The hub now operates with a Comtech Heights Platform and a 20-watt BUC, while utilizing less than 10 watts. Remote sites also reduced power consumption with 5W and 10W BUCs.
The total bandwidth requirement was reduced to 13.05 MHz, while total throughput increased to 39 Mbps, demonstrating a more efficient use of resources.
With Comtech technology over AMOS-17 C-band HTS beam, the operator no longer needed SCPC links, further improving cost-effectiveness.
The migration enabled support for 3G and 4G services, with the potential to expand to LTE and 5G.
