SPACECOM CHOSEN BY THE SENEGALESE POST AUTHORITY ‘LA POSTE’, AS THEIR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER
A multi-year contract via the AMOS-17 High Throughput Digital Satellite, for La Post’s 200 remote sites across Senegal
Tel Aviv – 11th of November 2020: Spacecom (TASE: SCC), a global satellite communication service provider and AMOS satellite fleet operator, today announced that they signed a multi-year contract with La Poste, the Senegalese Post Authority. As part of the deal, Spacecom will seamlessly migrate La Poste from its current satellite provider to the AMOS-17, and will utilize La Post’s existing VSAT equipment, assuring a quick and cost-effective process.
The robust, secure and reliable network communication will be via the AMOS-17’s Ku band beam, and will connect La Poste’s VSAT sites to its HUB in Dakar.
Spacecom will be providing La Poste with over double their current capacity, which will not only serve their 200 remote post offices, but will provide the rural population access to Internet services for their own use. This vast increase in capacity is a huge leap forward, allowing La Poste to bridge the digital divide by providing additional services and applications to its rural customers throughout the country.
Spacecom’s AMOS-17 fully digital and advanced High Throughput Satellite (HTS) supports a variety of broadcast, broadband and data services from its 17˚E orbital slot. The satellite’s capabilities allow maximal service architecture flexibility and higher throughput at reduced operational costs.
Mr. Albert Khayat, Spacecom’s VP for Western Africa said today, “This long-term contract marks an important milestone for Spacecom as we set to further penetrate the Francophone region of Africa. We are pleased to have received La Poste’s confidence in Spacecom and look forward to partnering with La Poste to further improve rural connectivity throughout the rural areas of Senegal and providing the reliable cost-effective solutions.”
Mr. Abdoulaye Balde, La Poste CEO also said,” La Poste is always looking to improve the services it provides its customers and envisioned a journey towards bridging the digital divide across Senegal. In order to do so, we needed to upgrade our capacity and find a satellite and solutions provider to take this journey with. Spacecom proved to be the perfect company to partner with and we look forward to offering our employees and customers added-value and the highest level of internet services.”
About La Poste – La Poste has deployed their own Satellite network all over Senegal with 200 remote sites operating with Eutelsat in Ku-Band from 2007. The capacity usage was quite small for Intranet communication between the remote Sites and their Centre in Dakar. La Poste will increase in the coming year the quantity of their remote sites and will provide additional Applications and Contents to the rural population in Senegal directly from the Post Offices. Other Satellite Projects are under consideration by La Poste for Internet connectivity to the white areas coverage.
La Poste Senegal is the public company in charge of postal services in Senegal and is a member of the Universal Postal Union.
